New jet. Bigger, better and cheaper.

Being a jet fighter enthusiast, I couldn't help but notice a piece of news that could possibly announce the rise of a country which was otherwise known for its silicon chip abundance, cheap but reliable products, and its name mentioned behind everything that we possess.

Yes, I'm talking about China.

We all know already what China is capable of already. Most people think of it as a country with huge population with all of them looking more or less the same. Fast, efficient people who go by doing their stuff and silently keep developing under many noses. A country that gives out consumer products and the ancient teachings of the best known martial art, both having immense popularity and reverence in their own ways, and most importantly, Hollywood legends like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan whom we have admired, respected, and grew up watching them fight 1 versus 100 on many occasions. So much for the "common man" stuff.

Now comes the defense talk. China has the largest army in the world. We know that. What we don't know, is Chinese air force is currently comprised of aging F-16's and French Mirage jets. Sure, it also has it's own indigenous jets with incomprehensible names. But, what about keeping up pace with the jets existing in the world, which cannot be detected? This question was answered this morning by the newspaper, which was about China's sleek new stealth fighter -The J-20.

Simply put, the J-20 is a stealth fighter, much like it's counterpart the F-22 raptor from Lockheed Martin, and  the Russian Sukhoi SU - T50. It's equipped with two Saturn 117s turbofan jets, capable of producing an awesome 14,500 kg thrust and a top speed of 2120 km/h, which is an estimate for now.It is longer than the raptor by 4 meters and longer than the T50 by 3 meters.

The fuselage shaping is basically inspired by the F-22 raptor design to induce more of aerodynamical advantage and stealth. The canard wings are before the main wings, more like the Eurofighter.

The J-20, also dubbed "The Black Eagle" can have possible side missile bays, but most of the missiles and payload can be carried internally. Also, the Black Eagle has bigger fuel capacity, hence enabling it to be operational a while longer than it's rivals.

Now for the biggest point. We all know by now that this new jet is pretty comparable to other stealth multi-role jets in the air. Allow me to tell you all that this awesome mean machine costs just around 75 to 80 million dollars, while the F-22 raptor costs $150 million, and the Sukhoi costs $100 million!! It's on sale baby!
